Two people were killed Thursday morning when they were hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 west of Lordsburg, New Mexico State Police said.

State police said that the tractor-trailer was heading east when for unknown reasons it drove onto the right shoulder where a pickup was parked. Two people outside the truck were hit and died at the scene. The tractor-trailer did not hit the pickup.

Police said the crash occurred about 5:15 a.m. about four miles west of Lordsburg. The driver of the semi-truck had chest pain and was taken to a hospital in Las Cruces.

Names were not immediately released pending notification of family.
