Motorcyclist dies after crash on I-10

NEW ORLEANS – A man died in an early morning crash on I-10 westbound after being thrown from his motorcycle, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Around 1:45 a.m., the unidentified man crashed on the interstate at the Carrollton Avenue Exit and “landed ground level,” said Officer Frank Robertson, a spokesman for the NOPD.

The man was taken to the hospital where he died, according to police. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

 

 

El Paso County Sheriff’s: Man dies in motorcycle crash on I-10 near Fabens

The El Paso County Sheriff’s office is investigating a possible hit-and-run accident that has closed parts of Interstate 10, officials said.

The accident, which occurred near mile marker 51, involves a motorcycle and investigators have closed the two eastbound lanes starting at the Fabens exit, spokeswoman Angelica Becerra said.

Traffic is being rerouted south, Becerra said.

Interstate 10 westbound is down to one lane near the accident, she added.

Man dies in motorcycle crash


HARRIS COUNTY, Texas –

Harris County Deputies are still investigating a deadly motorcycle crash on I-10 East and Spur 330 in East Harris County.

Deputies say James Jackson was riding a motorcycle in the northbound outside lane in the 7500 block of Spur 330.

Jackson hit the guardrail, lost control and was thrown from his Harley Davidson while the motorcycle continued north.

Jackson died at the scene.

Luke Airman killed in motorcycle crash on I-10

LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. — Luke Air Force Base lost one of its own when an Airman assigned to the base was killed in a three-car wreck on Interstate 10.

It happened Sunday in Buckeye.

Staff Sgt. Matthew Dennison, 25, of Mechanicsburg, Ill., was riding a motorcycle. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix where doctors pronounced him dead.

Dennison was an Aircraft Structural Maintenance Journeyman in the 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron. He entered the Air Force on Aug. 1, 2006, and arrived at Luke AFB on Feb. 5, 2007.

“The death of Sgt. Dennison is a tragic loss for the Air Force and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time,” said Brig. Gen. Mike Rothstein, 56th Fighter Wing commander. “He was a valuable member of Team Luke and will be greatly missed by all.”

Motorcyclist injured in overnight crash


El Paso, Texas –

A man is recovering in the hospital after crashing his motorcycle on I-10 East at the Airway exit overnight.

The wreak happened around 1:15 Friday morning. An officer at the scene told ABC-7 that, according to witnesses, the man was trying to exit the freeway at Airway, when he suddenly swerved back onto I-10.

That’s when he hit the raised pavement markers and lost control of the bike. He landed almost 30 yards away on Gateway East.

Left behind at scene was the smashed up Harley Davidson motorcycle and the rider’s boot. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

Emergency crews rushed the man to University Medical Center in serious condition.

The crash was so bad, ABC-7 reporter David Concha was told by emergency responders the rider might even lose his right leg. It is unknown if he was speeding or drunk at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved in

Man rushed in serious condition after crashing motorcycle on I-10

A man was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after he lost control of his motorcycle on Interstate 10.

The wreck happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday, on I-10 east at the Airway exit.

The KFOX14 Morning News crew arrived first on the scene as the rider was being loaded into the ambulance.

Officers say the accident happened because the motorcyclist was trying to exit I-10 onto Airway and realized he was on the wrong exit.

He lost control when he hit reflectors on the road while trying to get back on the freeway, police said.

The man was rushed to University Medical Center in serious condition.

Officers say the man wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered severe injuries to his right leg.

Police are still investigating to determine if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. 

Motorcyclist thrown from I-10 overpass

HOUSTON – Police and EMS responded to an accident involving a motorcycle Monday afternoon on I-10 near downtown.

A cyclist lost control of their bike while driving east on I-10 and smashed into the side of the bridge. The cyclist was thrown from the bike and fell 40 feet off the expressway onto Travis Street below.

The accident happened at 2:15 p.m. The rider survived the fall and was taken away in an ambulance.

Police have not identified the rider, but said that the rider was wearing a helmet.

A change of venue has been forced due to the popularity of the New Zealand Opera School lunchtime recital.

The 10-day school opens on January 3, at Wanganui Collegiate School with 24 students from throughout New Zealand.

John L. Smith out at Arkansas, says AD

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long wasted little time in bringing the John L. Smith era to a close.

Long said in a statement released by the university Saturday that Smith will not return next season as the Razorbacks’ coach. Long met with the interim coach a day after the Razorbacks’ season-ending 20-13 loss to LSU and told him the school “would be making a change in leadership within our program.”

The former Michigan State and Louisville coach was hired away from Weber State in April to replace the fired Bobby Petrino and signed to a 10-month contract. Long says that once a new coach is hired Smith will be reassigned as a consultant through the end of his deal on Feb. 23, 2013.

“I have great respect for coach Smith, and I thank him for the sincere commitment he has shown our program,” Long said. “He made a difficult decision in uncertain times to return from his alma mater to guide the young men in our football program, and I will always be grateful for his efforts.”
