Services set for man killed in crash

Funeral services have been scheduled for the Bonnie man who was killed in a crash Sunday on the Rend Lake Dam.

Craig Payne, 41, died from injuries he suffered when the minivan he was driving was struck head on by a car driven by Tabitha Weeks, 31, of West Frankfort. Weeks was traveling eastbound on the road when her car crossed the center line and struck the westbound minivan.

Payne was pronounced dead an hour later at Franklin Hospital in Benton. His wife and four children were injured in the crash. One of the children, Pierce, 10, was airlifted to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Word of his condition was not available Tuesday.

Weeks was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after the crash. Her condition had improved from critical to serious by Tuesday, a Barnes-Jewish spokeswoman said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, which authorities have said they suspect is alcohol-related. However, Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones said he anticipates charges will come with the completion of the investigation.

Funeral service for Payne, who worked at Innertech in Nashville for 14 years, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Johnston Funeral Home in Ina.
