Rider thrown from motorcycle in collision on I-10, tumbles along roadway

PHOENIX — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision on Interstate 10 west of Queen Creek Road Wednesday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the motorcyclist was traveling at a speed greater than the flow of traffic when he clipped the rear end of a sport utility vehicle.

The rider was thrown from his motorcycle and tumbled along the roadway. He was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

DPS spokesman Raul Garcia said the motorcycle operator was not wearing a helmet.

The westbound lanes of I-10 at Queen Creek Road were closed for approximately two hours. The lanes reopened shortly before 10 a.m.

Eastbound I-10 remained open.
