One man is dead, and three others are injured, after a crash in Calcasieu Parish early this morning. Troopers say the two-vehicle crash happened at 1:54 am on Interstate 10 Eastbound near milepost 26.5.

Troopers say a 2001 Ford F-150 was traveling east on I-10 when the driver lost control on an overpass. Troopers say that’s when the vehicle began to rotate on an icy surface. Troopers say when the vehicle came to a stop on the overpass, the driver and a passenger got out of the vehicle. Troopers say while standing outside the vehicle, the driver was hit by an 18-wheeler, which also hit the truck, which then hit the passenger who was standing outside the pickup.

The driver sustained fatal injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. Trooper say the passenger who exited the vehicle as well as two passengers who remained in the vehicle were transported to area hospitals with moderate injuries. A driver and passenger in the 18-wheeler were not injured.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
