Niceville woman killed in I-10 wreck

A 24-year-old Niceville woman was killed Sunday night in a three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 in Holmes County.

Ashley M. Curriston was driving west near Mile Marker 109 in the inside lane around 8:50 p.m. when her 2003 Toyota four door was rear ended by a 2005 Nissan Altima, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Curriston’s Toyota and 22-year-old Dothan resident Breanna N. Harrison’s Altima began to rotate counter-clockwise after the collision. Harrison’s vehicle came to a final stop in the median of I-10. Curriston’s came to a stop facing north in the inside westbound lane of the interstate.

At the same time, a 2011 semi-truck driven by 51-year-old Willie J. Haynie was traveling west in the inside lane when he hit the Toyota on the right side.

The semi and Toyota went into the outside westbound lane and came to a final stop on the north shoulder where the semi overturned in a ditch off the interstate. The wreck caused a total of $80,000 in damages to the vehicles.

Curriston was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Harrison suffered serious injuries and was taken to Southwest Medical Center in Dothan, Ala. Haynie suffered minor injuries, but was not transported.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
