Motor home hits, kills two pedestrians on I-10

HIDALGO COUNTY, N.M. New Mexico State Police and Motor Transportation Division Police responded to the scene of a crash at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday involving a tractor trailer Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and two pedestrians. The wreck occurred on Interstate 10 at about the 16 milemarker, which is about four miles west of the town of Lordsburg, New Mexico.

The initial investigation revealed that the CMV was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10. For unknown reasons, the CMV traveled onto the right shoulder of eastbound I-10 where there was a pickup parked on the shoulder. Two individuals were outside the pickup. The CMV struck both individuals. The CMV did not strike the pickup. Both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the CMV was transported to a local hospital complaining of chest pain. He was later flown to a Las Cruces hospital.

Identities of the deceased are pending upon notification of next of kin.

Identity of the driver of the CMV will be released at a later date.
