I-10 closed Friday morning because of ice

Ice continued to be a problem on Interstate 10 Friday morning, causing a traffic crash and closing down the roadway for about an hour, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Gayle D. Fiquette, 55, of DeFuniak Springs, lost control of an 1999 Toyota Tacoma after it hit ice on an overpass near State Road 285 about 7 a.m., the FHP reported.

The Tacoma, which was in the eastbound outside lane, began to spin, crossed the grass median, hit a guardrail and overturned in the westbound inside lane, according to the FHP.

Fiquette was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with serious injuries, the FHP reported.

The FHP shut down traffic just before 8 a.m. from west of Milton to U.S. Highway 331 because of the ice. The road was reopened just before 9 a.m.

The FHP was continuing to investigate the accident later Friday.
