Fatal rollover shuts down parts of I-10 near Tangerine Road

UPDATE: Emergency shoulder lane was opened for traffic at 3:30 am.

PIMA COUNTY – One person is dead and two others are in critical condition after a rollover on Interstate 10.

According the Dept. of Public Safety, currently investigating the crash, the eastbound lanes of I-10 are closed at Marana Road and are expected to remain closed for the several hours.

Officer Raul Molina with DPS told News 4 that the accident occurred at 12:39 am when an SUV travelling westbound, lost control and rolled over the median into the eastbound lanes. It was then hit by a semi-tractor trailer that was driving on the eastbound lane.

The driver of the semi is ok, but the three people in the SUV weren’t so lucky. The driver – a 37 year old man died. The two passengers have critical injuries – one of whom was airlifted to the hospital.

DPS will continue to investigate the accident and roads will be closed for approximately the next 2 to 3 hours.
