Family seriously injured in I-10 car accident

PHOENIX — Authorities said members of a family were seriously hurt in a
collision after their vehicle had a tire blowout and then crossed a freeway
median in central Phoenix.

The Department of Public Safety said several people were ejected in the
rollover accident Thursday morning on Interstate 10 near 27th Avenue.

DPS spokesman Raul Garcia said the family’s vehicle was traveling westbound
when the tire blowout caused it to go across the median and into eastbound
traffic lanes.

Garcia said two adults and two children have been hospitalized. A Phoenix Fire
Department spokesman said the four were taken to trauma centers with serious injuries and
a fifth person was less seriously injured.
