  • LIVE: Car Crashes Into Hotel 1-15-14 5pm

You just about have to see it to believe it.

A car was deeply lodged in the Best Western Plus Hotel.

Only Eyewitness News was there as a Tallahassee Fire Department crew worked on the driver and loaded him onto a stretcher.

A TFD spokesman tells us the crew was able to pull him from the car without using the jaws of life.

The spokesman also says the driver was conscious and talking.

He was taken away by ambulance.

The unidentified driver’s car clipped Bernie Biles pick up truck.

The hotel, closed for renovations, was supposed to re-open next week.

Biles, an electrician, said he’d left for lunch just a few minutes before the driver crashed into the room right where he was working.

“We went to lunch a little bit late, later than usual and it we had waited any longer it might have been too late,” said Biles.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver was heading north on Monroe.

Just as he made it past the I-10 overpass, he crossed southbound traffic, crashed through a fence with barbed wire on top, smashed through bushes and crossed the hotel parking lot before slamming into the hotel.

Investigators are looking at the possibility a medical issue might have led to the crash.

“We don’t know right now,” said Sergeant Steven Barrow of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division. “He’s still being medically evaluated and that’s definitely something we’re looking into,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bernie Biles was still a little shaky, especially after noticing the license plate of the car responsible for all the damage.

“It says ‘oh my God, go’ on the tag and ooooh oh my God I’m glad I wasn’t here for it,” said Biles.

A city utilities crew cut off the power and gas to the hotel.

It’s been evacuated and no one is allowed inside.

We’re told city buidling inspectors had to take a look at the damage to the hotel before the car would be removed.

Investigators say the man who crashed his car into the hotel was listed in stable condition.

Tallahassee, Fla. — An unidentified driver has been taken away from the scene of a crash at I-10 and N. Monroe by first responders after driving a vehicle into the side of the Best Western Plus.

As of right now the condition of the driver is unknown, but he was transported from the scene on a stretcher. It is unknown if anyone else was injured in this crash, or if he crashed into an occupied area of the hotel.

Eyewitnesses say the car “missed” a ramp on I-10 and ended up in the hotel.

WCTV has a reporter on the scene, and will bring you more information as it becomes available.
