Deming man dies in I-10 crash near Lordsburg – Las Cruces Sun

HIDALGO COUNTY One man died in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday on Interstate 10 near Lordsburg.

Donald Shay, 75, of Deming, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the state Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m., about 26 miles east of Lordsburg.

DPS reports a New Mexico Motor Transportation Division Police investigation revealed that a tractor-trailer rear-ended a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, knocking the pickup off the road. The tractor-trailer then struck another tractor-trailer, before all vehicles came to a stop.

Shay was driving the pickup truck. The driver of the second tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the first tractor-trailer was uninjured. He was cited for careless driving.

Driver inattention is believed to be a factor in this crash, the DPS news release states.
