Crash and ice shut down I-10 East

The wintry weather that has moved into south Louisiana is causing problems for drivers early Tuesday morning.

I-10 West @ College

I-10 (both directions) between Port Allen and Lafayette

US 190 West (both directions) at Krotz Springs

Audubon Bridge

US 61 at Thompson Creek

Crashes in both directions on I-10 at the Horace Wilkinson Bridge (New Bridge) are causing delays. The bridge is still officially open.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported portions of I-110 are now closed due to roadway conditions. They are blocking the following ramps on I-110:

Both directions @ Evangeline Street

Both directions @ Hollywood Street

Both directions @ Harding Boulevard

Northbound @ Chippewa Street

Northbound @ Airline Highway

Southbound @ I-10/I-110 Split

Southbound @ LA 19

Southbound @ 22nd Street

Those hoping to head west to Lafayette from Baton Rouge for Mardi Gras celebrations may have to come up with alternate plans.

Louisiana State Police said I-10 is closed in both directions on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge due to icy conditions. I-10 West traffic is diverted at LA 415 in Port Allen, while I-10 East traffic is detoured at I-49 in Lafayette.

However, troopers reported US 190 is closed at Krotz Springs due to ice and crashes.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development reported an 18-wheeler jack-knifed on I-10 East at Whiskey Bay. There have been several crashes on I-10 East on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

LSP also reported ice has started to develop on several roadways in the Baton Rouge area.

The Audubon Bridge on LA 10 connecting St. Francisville and New Roads is closed due to icy conditions.

US 61 is closed at Thompson Creek. It is located between St. Francisville and Zachary. There are unconfirmed reports of a crash there.

It is unknown if there were any injuries in any of the crashes or how long the closures will last.
