MERIDIAN — Neighbors in a Meridian subdivision are still trying to understand and cope with a deadly accident that took the life of a young boy on Thursday.
Ada County Coroner Erwin L. Sonnenberg says 10-year-old William Passero was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 12:12 p.m. on Thursday.
Sonnenberg says Passero died of blunt-force trauma.
Police say the boy was riding his bicycle in a crosswalk around 11:30 a.m. when he was hit by an SUV and fatally injured. The accident happened in the Lochsa Falls Subdivision in Meridian at the intersection of Horse Loop Circle and Goddard Street.
Officers say the boy’s bike was found 30-feet away from where he was hit.
Chief Deputy Tracy Basterrechea told KTVB the collision happened when a 70-year-old woman driving a 2005 Nissan Xterra was exiting a roundabout in the subdivision. Basterrechea says the boy was not wearing a helmet when she struck him.
Several witnesses tell KTVB the boy’s mother was near the intersection at the time of the crash. They say she was screaming, and immediately yelled for neighbors to call 9-1-1.
