COLTON: I-10/215 fatal accident victim was Yucaipa man – Press

Accident DefaultA 23-year-old Yucaipa man was the victim of the fatal weekend pedestrian accident at the I-10/215 freeway interchange in Colton, coroner’s officials say.

Brandon Erick Ellwanger died at the scene of the 1:38 a.m. crash Sunday, Jan. 12, on the transition road from the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 to the northbound lanes of I-215, said California Highway Patrol Officer Charles Murray.

Ellwanger was struck by a 25-year-old San Bernardino woman who was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, Murray said.

Preliminary reports referred to the accident as a hit-and-run. However, Murray said that the woman later went to San Bernardino Police Department where she notified officers that she’d been involved in a fatal accident.

After being interviewed, she was released pending completion of the accident investigation and a review by district attorney’s officials.

It’s unclear why Ellwanger was walking on the freeway. There were no disabled or parked cars in the area, Murray said.
