Child Fatally Injured in Crash on Interstate 10 Near 62

A child was fatally injured in a crash Friday morning on eastbound Interstate 10 near State Route 62, and lanes were closed several hours for investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.

An overturned vehicle was reported at 7:12 a.m. Jan. 17, according to the CHP.

Two Cal Fire engine companies responded “to a traffic collision with
extrication on Eastbound I 10 near Hwy 62 in North Palm Springs,” Jody Hagemann of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

The child later died at a hospital and a coroner’s investigator was summoned, according to the CHP. Three other people sustained minor injuries, Hagemann said.

Two eastbound lanes on the 10 remained closed east of SR 62 as of 11:55 a.m. Friday, a Highway Patrol dispatcher said in a phone interview.
