2 dead after 18-wheeler crosses I-10 median, strikes car

D’IBERVILLE, Mississippi– A car and an 18-wheeler collided near the 47 mile-marker I-10 Saturday night. The driver of the truck and the driver of car both died, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The 18-wheeler was hauling a tanker trailer with a hazardous substance. The tank did not rupture in the accident.

The driver of the 18-wheeler reportedly lost control, crossed the median and struck the car traveling eastbound.

As of 9 p.m., the accident was not cleared entirely and officials asked people to take a different route.

Names of the drivers have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
