1 dead, 3 injured in pair of Interstate 10 accidents

One person died and three people were injured in two separate accidents Saturday that closed down Interstate 10 near 75th Avenue, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported.

A person was ejected from a vehicle that crossed over I-10 from an eastbound lane to a westbound lane at 4:19 p.m., DPS said.

DPS was investigating why the vehicle crossed over the highway and was withholding the name of the person until next of kin notification is made.

The fatal accident came just as officials were preparing to reopen westbound I-10 after a semi-truck and an SUV collided at 1:45 p.m., a news release said.

One adult and two children, ages 12 and 13, were transported to the hospital from the 1:50 p.m. accident, said spokesman Scott McDonald of the Phoenix Fire Department.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation.

I-10 was fully re-opened at 6:25 p.m., DPS said.
