1 dead, 2 critical after early morning crash near Marana

One man was killed and two others were critically injured in an early morning crash on Interstate 10 near Marana.

Just before 1 a.m. Tuesday, the driver of an SUV traveling west on I-10 east of the Marana exit lost control and the vehicle rolled into eastbound lanes of traffic where it was struck by a tractor-trailer, Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District.

One man in the SUV was dead at the scene.

Northwest firefighters used the Jaws-of-Life to free a second man who was trapped in the car.

The two surviving occupants, both with critical, life-threatening injuries, were taken a local hospital — one by helicopter, one by ambulance, Goldberg said.

The truck driver was uninjured.

Eastbound lanes of the interstate at the Marana exit were closed for more than four hours.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officers are investigating the crash.
